The Blue Moon
Went to the Blue Moon Tavern last Saturday night. Two local bands were having a record release party. Advertised as Seattle’s ” most infamous bar”. The list of literary figures that have spent time in the bar can be seen on this link. I like the one where Tom Robbins, the author, called Pablo Picasso from the bar and actually got through to him, but Mr. Picasso refused to accept the overseas phone charges. The murals in this post are on the west wall of the exterior of the bar and were taken with my iPhone.
Touches of Art Deco

Years ago, this was the Public Health Hospital on Beacon Hill, in Seattle. It has had many tenets since those days, when people without health insurance could go for medical care. For a few years it served as Amazon’s Headquarters. Now it is occupied by PacMed called Pacific Tower and is shared with Seattle Central Community College as a training facility.
If you look closely you can see touches of Art Deco in the building design. Considering what sort of design styles are used today. glass and steel monoliths, I find the look of this building amazing to view.
Two Faces of Monday
Monday I posted a color version of this photo on Instagram and FB. Thought I would post the black and white version.
Cain Bolt and Gasket

Aug. 1955. Me fishing on the Duwamsh River.
I’ve been exploring the South Park area of Seattle on Sundays for 10+ years. It’s a unique mix of light industry and residential that hugs the Duwamish River on the East and the hills, that lead to White Center, on the West. It’s a gritty step back in time. Slowly most of the scrap metal businesses have been shut down, closed or the land sold. In time this area will probably look like many other gentrified neighborhoods, but it will be a slower transition here so it is fun to explore and document what is there now.
When I was four years old I actually lived in South Park for about a year before my parents moved. We lived very close to the river. I have a photo of myself at that age ‘fishing’ on the Duwamish River near our apartment. I think I have posted it, but if not I can do that. One of the few photos of me from my childhood ( see above -I found the image). For some reason I keep coming back to this area of Seattle.
Hello Fresh

Two Whole Foods employees, in the Lower East Side (NYC). After trying to convince me to try home delivery, even though I live 3,000 miles away. The girls insisted I take their photo. We also spent time sharing family info, etc.

Film Crews in Gowanus
As odd as it may seem, film crews do a lot of shooting around the Gowanus Canal. This set took up quite a bit of space, with catering and support vehicles and all. There is still a graphic book available, called It Came from the Gowanus Canal, for $5. which makes sense, but a film setting seems a bit weird. Usually there is always filming done in Brooklyn Heights, a much more scenic place in Brooklyn. The series Point of Interest was always shooting in Brooklyn Heights, it seemed.
Anyway, I included the image of the church steeple across the canal, closer to Carroll Gardens and this corner shot, as well.
