Google Earth

Roaming around the globe, a Google Earth photo car spotted on 5th Ave. in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Two Views: Kentile Floors Sign
Two views of the Kentile Floors sign in Gowanus. The land the sign and factory sits on is part of the Superfund Site. Apparently the soil is contaminated with asbestos.

Leaving Dumbo
My exit from Dumbo, as witnessed by these two inanimate images.
L&H Stern Company in the background. A fading ad through the prism of an archway.
Missing Window

Gentrification underway in Dumbo.

One Girl Cookies
Located in DUMBO, even the outside lighting sends a less than subliminal message: “Cookies“. Yum 🙂

Faded Ad-Dumbo
The sun sliced a wedge-shaped piece out of this old, brick building in Dumbo. In the past couple of years I have shared of few of my NW Fading Ad images with Frank Jump. Since this one was in his neighborhood I thought he might have already published a copy. I love the cast iron window shutters. I’m not sure, but I don’t think there used to be glass windows behind them. Might be retrofitted with glass panes now, though. Also, (if you click to enlarge) note the star-shaped detail every few feet. It’s possible that attached to the back of the star is a long, iron bar that is used for stability in older brick buildings such as this.
Autumn, Prospect Park
Taken this Fall in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. The leaves were just beginning to turn colors. I had to walk for some time to discover this tree.
B&W

Some B&W images from DUMBO.
Early Morning in DUMBO
Reinventing itself, DUMBO has now become a destination as well as a trendy place to live. With the new Brooklyn Bridge Park along the East River it really makes this area very attractive. The views of Manhattan are wonderful from this vantage point.

Faces of Red Hook
Van Brunt St., Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Flowers from Red Hook

Thought I would end the year with a couple of images from Van Brunt St. in Red Hook ( Brooklyn). This area was hard hit by Sandy. These images were taken a few blocks from the waterfront so maybe they survived. Taken 10 days prior to super storm Sandy.
Absence
Due to illness I didn’t post for a couple of the worst days. Seem to be doing better now.
Views of the Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.

This Being Sunday
I thought I would post a view of a steeple* and another rooftop that looks much like a steeple. I don’t think I would want to be the person who re-roofs the secular steeple.
*Note: Composition 101: Avoid light poles, in the frame, while shooting steeples :-).

Sundays Brownstones

Again, indulging my love of this architectural style. Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Vespa Spotted
In my walks around the five boroughs of NYC I always stop when I see a Vespa. I shoot them in all colors, ages and degrees of wear/damage. Brownstones and Vespa’s seem to go together. Something about the timelessness of the design, perhaps?
