Large Barge
Recently spent a little time around the Duwamish River in South Park, Seattle. This day the river was really high due to runoff in the mountains. The barge looked like an ocean going type, although I’m no barge expert. There are a couple of more steps, in the image, that are usually visible even during high tide.
Note: I used an old, Vivitar wide angle lens on the barge photo.
Exploring
Two of our grandchildren exploring the beach at Jack Block Park on Elliott Bay in Seattle. Although the water was frigid they did wade in for a brief moment :-). Today they are back in school with the rest of the Seattle students. I had a fun summer watching them. although a bit crazy at times. Madeleine starts the 4th grade and Adam first grade. Seem like not so long ago I was changing their diapers!
West Seattle Vanished
West Seattle actually had a working flour mill, Stone Ground Mills. The mill produced Stone Buhr Flour, which we have used for years. The mill* is located at 26th and Yancy St., adjacent to what is now Nucor Steel. This area is technically known as Youngstown ( or North Delridge Area). The Steel mill was originally named Bethlehem Steel, one of the many owned by this large corporation years and years ago. Nucor Steel produces mostly rebar these days.
Here is a link to a thread which has additional photos of Stone Ground Mill. Stone Buhr Flour is still a viable product, I think. I haven’t been by the site since I took these photos, but according to the link above, it was there in 2010, which is about when I was tramping around the site (probably before the year on the watermark). The building was in bad shape 7 years ago, so I would suspect it is either gone now or …….?
*The mill is now located in Kent, Washington, approximately 10 miles south of Seattle.

Duwamish Reflection
There has been a layer of fog over Seattle for days. I thought I should post something to remind me of what blue sky looks like. The Duwamish River at high tide is nearly glassy in appearance. The building reflected is a Boeing property, one of few remaining in this section of Seattle known in Boeing-speak as Plant II. Although I am retired from Boeing I have no idea just what takes place in this building. In my day there were some secure sites within Plant II, but I think most of that was in relation to work Boeing did on the stealth aircraft in the 1990’s.
Leaves and Lichen
Another set of images from Lincoln Park. So many of the trees are now turning colors it has kept me busy this Fall. This is the time of year I am usually in Brooklyn/NY visiting with our son and daughter in law, wandering around the Five Boroughs of NYC with my camera in hand. 
Fall Colors
Taken at Lincoln Park, near our home, in West Seattle. I found one tree that kept me busy shooting for quite a few minutes. It’s amazing the range of colors visible on just one tree. The process of decay is in stages that I find fascinating, but I am sure there is a rational, scientific explanation. I prefer the mysterious 🙂.

Alki Lighthouse
Located on Beach Drive in West Seattle. One of the last lighthouses on the West Coast to be automated.
Note: My seven year old Macbook Pro expired yesterday. I did most, but not all, of my photo and photoblog work on that machine. Apparently the logic card died and Apple, in the spirit of planned obsolescence, does not supply that part any more. So, I am in the process of deciding what to do next. Since 2008 I have enjoyed doing this blog and don’t want it to end due to some mechanical failure.
Floral along the Duwamish River
Between the river and the marshes a few splashes of color were spotted. 
Low Tide
Large clusters of mussels are exposed at low tide on Elliott Bay.
