Hiram Chittenden Locks

Also known locally as The Ballard Locks, this is one section of the locks that work to get marine vehicles from Lake Washington to Puget Sound. The duck is swimming around in a calmer spot on the waterway. The locks are  quite a tourist draw in Seattle. I’ll be posting some photos taken at this location over the next few days.

Tanner Springs Park

I just discovered a folder full of images from this park in downtown Portland as well as other locations. The photos were shot the last week of August and somehow I just lost track of this particular folder. A warning: I may be posting a lot of duck, pond and waterfall photos this week and next.

Paddling in Pairs

Paddling along the Duwamish River in the morning. The banks of the river are lined with algae-c0vered boulders, cement blocks and general riprap. Note: At the risk of patting myself on the back, I really did like the tone of the color of the water in the duck photo posted here.

Mood on the River

A section of blue sky reflected in the river. The mood along the river seemed to change suddenly.  A partially cloudy morning turned into a steel-gray morning with the wind causing ripples on a calm river. Despite a few garbage cans close by  trash seems to accumulate. To me the cement blocks are more of a reminder of an earlier time when pollution of every sort could be found in and around the Duwamish River.
