Self Promotional Post

Two items to pass along to those following this blog:

On May 1st I will be having my next photo show at Capital Hill Hair. The display will run for 6 weeks. The business doesn’t have a website, but is located on 19th and Republican(522 19th Ave E)  on Capital Hill, Seattle.

#2: Today I started an account on a photo sharing site called 500pix.com. I have a few photos uploaded and plan to do more soon. I believe you can purchase prints from the site at this link:

I think if you do a search using my name (Fred King) that might be enough to get you to my store.

A Sunny Morning in the Lower East Side

DSC_8167-001DSC_8173-001Modernity, with people. I don’t recall the purpose of this building, but I’m not sure I care for the look. Maybe it does serve a function, other than looking like it is going to tip over?

Passenger

In a departure from the photoblog content I have been posting for the past three years I thought I would take a moment to present an idea with the support of a song:

I think, if all 7 billion of us on this planet could thing of ourselves as ‘passengers’ on planet Earth, we and the planet might create a better future.

How Jay-Z Got His Name

DSC_8131-001DSC_8130-001Disclaimer: I know nothing about rap or hip hop music, therefore, I am ably qualified to propose the following theory: the popular ( and very rich) rapper/hip-hopster Jay-Z ( formerly known as Shawn Carter) chose his nom de rapper from the NYC subway station of the same-well, similar-name. I submit, in evidence, the two photos in this posting as well as this link.

Flowers from Red Hook

DSC_8401-001
Thought I would end the year with a couple of images from Van Brunt St. in Red Hook ( Brooklyn).  This area was hard hit by Sandy. These images were taken a few blocks from the waterfront so maybe they survived. Taken 10 days prior to super storm Sandy.DSC_8405-001

East Side, Northward

This is from the Roosevelt Island Tram as it nears the Manhattan Island station. I don’t recall the exact ave. (E. 60th St.), but this view is looking northward on the East Side. I carry a small digital voice recorder with me, but I tend to use it to remind myself of general geographical areas that I have shot in during the course of a day. I probably should consider using it for the details as well.

Vespa Spotted

In my walks around the five boroughs of NYC I always stop when I see a Vespa. I shoot them in all colors, ages and degrees of wear/damage. Brownstones and Vespa’s seem to go together. Something about the timelessness of the design, perhaps?DSC_7804-001DSC_7809-001
