Two Views: Kentile Floors Sign
Two views of the Kentile Floors sign in Gowanus. The land the sign and factory sits on is part of the Superfund Site. Apparently the soil is contaminated with asbestos.

Things that Fade Away: The Lower East Side

A wall that fades into the distance and a fading ad slowly retreating into history.
Fridays Odds and Ends

From the Lower East side: variety of window treatments (or perhaps, mis-treatments?) on an older building, water tank and busy intersection on Delancey Street.
Women and Men
Public restroom from a bygone era in the Lower East Side.

Lower East Side
Spent some time walking around the LES gazing at the architectural elements that stand out. I thought the admission price for the Tenement Museum was outside of my budget so this is as close as I got.

Autumn, Prospect Park
Taken this Fall in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. The leaves were just beginning to turn colors. I had to walk for some time to discover this tree.
East River Morning
The East River is busy with commerce, even early in the morning. Large housing projects, probably a legacy of Robert Moses.

Tall Ship at the South Street Seaport
One of the tall ships moored at the South Street Seaport Pier. Prior to this area becoming a tourist destination it was called the Fulton Fish Market.
Freedom Tower
Another view of the Freedom Tower, under construction. The Brooklyn Bridge was also getting some attention. One of those clear Fall mornings in October that New York seems to b e known for.
Early Morning in DUMBO
Reinventing itself, DUMBO has now become a destination as well as a trendy place to live. With the new Brooklyn Bridge Park along the East River it really makes this area very attractive. The views of Manhattan are wonderful from this vantage point.

Faces of Red Hook
Van Brunt St., Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Flowers from Red Hook

Thought I would end the year with a couple of images from Van Brunt St. in Red Hook ( Brooklyn). This area was hard hit by Sandy. These images were taken a few blocks from the waterfront so maybe they survived. Taken 10 days prior to super storm Sandy.
East Side, Northward
This is from the Roosevelt Island Tram as it nears the Manhattan Island station. I don’t recall the exact ave. (E. 60th St.), but this view is looking northward on the East Side. I carry a small digital voice recorder with me, but I tend to use it to remind myself of general geographical areas that I have shot in during the course of a day. I probably should consider using it for the details as well.
Let’s Dance
Spotted on the Avenue of the Americas.
Artwork on Roosevelt Island

I think the artwork relates to the FDR Four Freedoms Memorial Park that is currently under construction on the southend of Roosevelt Island.
United Nations
The United Nations building as seen from Roosevelt Island. Currently, there is a large construction project going on that is creating a traffic nightmare on the front side of the building.
Manhattan from Roosevelt Island

Just a couple of glimpses of Midtown Manhattan from the west side of Roosevelt Island.
