Quick Editorial

Just for the record, I will not mourn the passing fad of Instagram. Looking at photos as if they were shot in the 1960’s using a cheap, plastic Kodak camera and overexposed in a dime store processing machine is…..( can’t find the exact word– want to say offensive, but…..). These images seem to actually hurt both my eyes and my visual sensibility.
That said………….

New look for Blog

I have been using a WordPress theme called ChaoticSoul the past couple of years. I thought it was time to shake things up. The title of this theme is Chateau. I have a little more creative control over the look of the blog in terms of colors and other options with this theme. The header photo is something I can change, for example. Currently the photo you see is of the old 14th St. Bridge in South Park, Seattle that is currently being replaced.

Pink House- Explained

Due to an editing glitch I could not update the following post with the description I had in mind so I thought just doing a new post to explain the next post was the easiest solution for this Luddite. I normally would not use pink for a house color, but in the case of this house the color works. What impressed me the most was all of the architectural details and work that was and is being put into the house. After I took the first photo of the series a guy ( owner ) rushed out to the back porch and asked me what I was doing ( eeeeks, busted, worst fear for me ). I explained that I loved the details of the house and just wanted to get some photos to share later ( I didn’t mention this blog or whatever ). As we talked his disposition changed and he said he is still working on the details of the house. I don’t think I did more than scratch the surface. From every angle I looked I could see new details, shades of pink, etc. Even the detail on the fence posts was cool. If the photos will enlarge it would really help in seeing some of what I am writing about. Enjoy!

If you’re a fan of listening to live music and doing who knows what in a city that makes you choose your own adventures, then there’s a good chance you’re a fan of SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST. After we endured a 46-hour trek from Toronto to Austin via train last Spring, the minute we landed into the home of the Longhorns and the somewhat unauthorized birthplace of independent sound, our hearts sank into our chests, and the neverending roller coaster of new music began. The weekend festival prides itself in main attractions, making SXSW the local town band, but the one you will forever love. Dusting off this year’s eclectic lineup injected with hip hop, garage rock, punk, R&B and electronica, here’s our picks – aside from favs Titus Andronicus, Santigold and Fiona Apple – for artists to tune into.

Urban Fur

Spotted last week between Prescott and Alberta St.’s in Portland. My guess would be this possum got caught somewhere in daylight that was not good or too far from where it usually hangs out in the daylight hours. My apologies to possum-lovers, but to me they look like  big  rats.

Snowmaggedon

The Northwest is under siege from Mother Nature this week. Yesterday it was snow and cold temps turning to freezing rain in the evening and continuing to the present. Ice is covering/coating everything. Today is actually more treacherous outside then yesterday as tree limbs are snapping and falling on power lines. Approximately 100K homes without power in the Puget Sound basin. To the south of us it is raining and to the north it is still snowing, but we seem to be caught in this freezing rain mess that has stalled over us. Hoping the predicted warming arrives soon. Going stir-crazy inside the house. Only so many Harry Potter episodes to watch, although I did realize last night that my favorite Harry Potter book/movie is The Half-Blood Prince. I think the dialogue is wittier than most and the plot seems to move along at a nice pace. Also, the flirting that transpires with the main characters is fun to watch.
