Flowers from Red Hook

Thought I would end the year with a couple of images from Van Brunt St. in Red Hook ( Brooklyn).  This area was hard hit by Sandy. These images were taken a few blocks from the waterfront so maybe they survived. Taken 10 days prior to super storm Sandy.DSC_8405-001

More from Gowanus

Directly ahead on this sidewalk is the canal. Not a very inviting place. At about this point is where one picks up the scent of the canal. I think this sign is a Parks Dept. sign. Not sure if this sign just ended up here or that this SuperFund site is pretending to be a park.DSC_7718-001DSC_7725-001

Sunrise

Photos were taken from the Sunrise side of Mt. Rainier. The lodge is at @ 6400′ elevation. Trails that lead up to the glaciers, alpine lakes and other ridges start from this lodge. This day we took a short trail called Huckleberry, steep, but short. The outcropping of rock is fascinating. There are spots along the trail, viewpoints I guess, where the drop-off is a direct fall for hundreds of feet. I have a thing about heights so I stay back from the edge at those points along the trail.

The Interurban

A section of the Interurban Trail, not as scenic as the Green River Trail, that is straight and flat. A large portion of the Green River Trail is closed due to flood abatement efforts. The trail has turned into a six foot wall of sandbags covered in black plastic.
