Tropical Portland

Bamboo and Palm trees in the NW. With all of the rain and cold weather we have 9 months a year it surprises me plants like this survive and thrive. A couple of years ago during an ice storm these bamboo plants were literally laying in the street covered with snow and ice. After the ice melted they sprung back to their original shape.

The Right Angle

I spent some time and a few bits of memory trying to get just the right angle on this wall that would conjure up the right optical experience. I don’t think this shot is the winner. I may be posting a few more of these attempts till I find the right one. My apologies in advance.

Smokestack

At the southern end of the old Rainier Brewery building is a tall, brick smokestack. On the image of the base of the smokestack you can see where ash was probably cleaned out. If this structure was damaged in the 2001 earthquake we had they sure did a good job restoring it.

The Goofy and Mundane

Goofy-looking unicorn on a telephone pole and a coffee shop down the street. I feel more comfortable in an environment/locale  like Georgetown as opposed to a modern shopping mall. Places like Georgetown in Seattle and Alberta St. in Portland feel very real and comfortable to me. Malls make me very nervous; the music is always too loud and people seem to behave in a manic mode.
