Foundation

All that is left of this house is the foundation. Adjacent to the bridge on-ramp, I saw a team of workers last summer in hazmat suits going through the house. At first I thought it was a drug bust of a meth lab. A couple of weeks later I was in the area again, shooting, and this time the whole house was gone. I think the house stood where a small park/playground will be once the new bridge is built.

Reflective Re-Visit

On a (rare ) clear day in Seattle I was able to revisit one of my favorite landmarks in transition, the 14th St Bridge.  Over the next couple of weeks ( as a warning 🙂 ) I will be posting some of the images from this clear, sunny day. Although the subject matter has been covered here, I think when the intangibles  ( weather  ) change it is worth a second look.

Bridge Grafitti

Although access to the underside of the bridge has been fenced off there are still reminders of a time when access was not discouraged. Sadly, there are remnants of homeless camps as well as graffiti.

Bridgeless

  • 14th St. Bridge missing the middle section ( top photo). Photo below is the East Control Tower. I believe they are currently working inside the towers, gutting them for the next phase of the demolition.

View from Below

There is a trail of sorts along the west bank of the Duwamish  River that takes one underneath the 14th St. Bridge. Along the trail you can see 7 foot tall fennel and the remnants of homeless hangouts; the odd assortment  clothes, food packaging and charred wood. In these photos you can begin to get a sense of the level of disrepair on the bridge. Link to the Bridge Project webpage is here.
