Tall Ship at the South Street Seaport

DSC_8071-001One of the tall ships moored at the South Street Seaport Pier. Prior to this area becoming a tourist destination it was called the Fulton Fish Market.

Freedom Tower

Another view of the Freedom Tower, under construction. The Brooklyn Bridge was also getting some attention. One of those clear Fall mornings in October that New York seems to b e known for.DSC_8037-001

United Nations

The United Nations building as seen from Roosevelt Island. Currently, there is a large construction project going on that is creating a traffic nightmare on the front side of the building.DSC_7847-001

Views from the Tram

Some images taken on the Roosevelt Island Tram, looking northward through the glass of the tram. Above the East River you see Roosevelt Island on the right side and Midtown Manhattan on the left. It was a fun ride and if you have a valid Metro Card that is all you need.DSC_7888-001DSC_7887-001

West Side of Roosevelt Island

A seagull was one of the few signs of life I encountered along the promenade this particular morning. A view of the underside of the Ed Koch Bridge, looking west towards Manhattan.DSC_7834-001DSC_7830-001

Roosevelt Island Tram

Roosevelt Island Tram traveling over the East River. Looking west towards Manhattan and the Ed Koch Queensborough Bridge. In the top photo you can barely see the red tram station at 59th st. Station. Bottom: tram pulling into the station on Roosevelt Island. Normally I am phobic regarding heights, but I rode the tram from Roosevelt Island back to Manhattan and had not issues. Will be posting some of the fun tram photos in the near future.DSC_7819-001DSC_7824-001DSC_7826-001

Wingspan

The wingspan of a heron, to me, seems really large. In relation to its body it is very long, large– whatever adjective fits. I have some more images of this same heron taken moments before lift off. I was stalking this heron, as they are very shy, along a spot on the Duwamish River a few days ago. Finally, I guess he/she thought I was being a nuisance hiding behind tall grass making a clicking noise ( camera ). I will post some those images in the coming days.

Note: I pressed the limits of my 70-200mm lens on these images so some of the detail is less than stellar.
