Random Order

One of the half-dozen coffee shops on Alberta Street in NE Portland, Random Order is painted nicely and is a fun place to spend some time. I have taken a few photos of this coffee shop in the past few years and I still don’t think I have the best possible image. This one was shot with the 55mm F3.5 manual lens I recently bought. I’ll keep trying. The atmosphere in this place has changed over the last couple of years. Frankly, I liked it when it was less patronized and the staff played some really obscure music on the stereo. All of those staff members left, one by one, and now it is just a different place.

PS: that’s me reflected in the glass window to the right of the door just under the letter “R”.

Red Tulip

Thought I would post a photo from last week before I continue with the New York photos. Over the next few days I will be posting images from around the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. The Gowanus Canal has been covered by a score of good photographers, in fact one evening, while I was shooting, I ran into a photographer from Atlanta, Ga. scouting out sights to shoot. My regret is that I didn’t have enough time to investigate more of the canal than I did as I had very limited time to work with.

Cat Buddy

Another of my ‘favorite homes’ in the Sabin area of NE Portland.  I would change the color, if mine, though. There are two cats that live at this location. When I walk by in the evening one of them, the long-haired one, invariably leaps from the porch railing and runs to greet me.

Star E Rose

The Star E Rose Cafe on Alberta Street. My granddaughter and I have spent some enjoyable time here people watching and consuming coffee……well, I the coffee and she a sippy cup with juice. One on a sunny evening and one on a cloudy day. I have had a few dreams that were centered around the Star E Rose. Many years ago it used to be a Rexall Drugstore. There are apartments located on the second floor. I seem to pick up an odd vibe or energy every time I am in this cafe. I have taken nearly a dozen shots of the cafe and I don’t think I have really ‘got it’. I’ll keep trying to capture whatever it is I sense about the Star E Rose. Will keep you posted.

A review from the above link: “They serve some damn fine pie here. You sometimes have to step through through a lot of trustafarians to get to the door sometimes but generally, it’s got a good vibe and the most important thing GOOD PIE!”

I think I just learned a new word: trustafarians. Based on the clientele I have witnessed at this cafe over the past three years I would define ‘trustafarian’ as a ‘ trust fund baby with dreds’. What’s your best guess?
