Views from the Ferry
A few iconic views from the Staten Island Ferry; Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Governors Island ( which was just purchased by the city of New York ).

Behind the Fence
This site was actually fenced off with a thick plastic tarp covering the fence. Someone had removed a small section of the tarp which allowed a minimal view. Probably more than Mr. Rubbish could handle, but one of the many ironies I saw walking around this area of the canal. The dumpster advert was adjacent to this ‘pond’.
Gowanus Canal-#3
Third Street Bridge with various shots in different directions. I was surprised to see the Consolidated Freightways trailers ( CF ) as that freight forwarding company went suddenly bankrupt 10+ years ago. Here is a link to a video on the canal.
Gowanus Canal
Abandoned building, scrap metal business, section of the canal and dead rat floating near the 3rd St. Bridge. In the background of the image of the canal turning a corner you can see an elevated section of track/trestle for the F Train. The red brick building with no windows is a couple of blocks from the Gowanus Canal, but seemed to fit into the general environment you see as you walk towards the canal itself.
The canal is now an EPA Superfund Site. If you click on the link the Wikipedia page will have a map of the canal area on the right side of the page. Where we walked that afternoon was down 3rd St. up a couple of blocks to Carroll Gardens and then returned via Carroll St and Carroll St. Bridge.
Red Tulip
Thought I would post a photo from last week before I continue with the New York photos. Over the next few days I will be posting images from around the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. The Gowanus Canal has been covered by a score of good photographers, in fact one evening, while I was shooting, I ran into a photographer from Atlanta, Ga. scouting out sights to shoot. My regret is that I didn’t have enough time to investigate more of the canal than I did as I had very limited time to work with.
